Purim Sameach! The war in Ukraine is heartbreaking, and it’s impacting us all. However, we’ll still make this the “good” newsletter and focus on the positives of the last week, and special for Purim, we’ll try to blend in some humor. This is just a reminder that you can support United Hatzalah, to support all they are doing to assist refugees escaping the war. Just check out this video to get a small idea.
Yuli Edelstein posted a beautiful idea that I’d like to share. Thanks to Google for the translation.
“As every Friday, this time too I took on the preparations for Shabbat at home, but this time instead of grumbling and grumbling – I thought to myself what thousands of Jews in Ukraine would now give in exchange for the possibility of putting the mitzvah and braai with Shabbat dishes and welcoming it quietly and peacefully.
We have a country that is not simple, and not everything is perfect, but precisely in these times we should stop for a moment and say thank you for the visible miracle called the State of Israel. And I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and there shall be no fear;
(Leviticus 26: 6).
Shabbat Shalom to the whole house of Israel, in Israel and the Diaspora 🇮🇱❤.”
First off, thank you to so many of you that chose Gili’s Goodies to send warm hug mishloach manot packages to your friends and loved ones in Israel. We’ve been working tirelessly to ensure your packages get delivered on time with the best of what we offer inside. We wish we could have pictures of every delivery but thanks to your support we have so many deliveries to make that all the packages went out with couriers that don’t provide that service. Either way, we are privileged to have served you, and we’d appreciate it if you could send a review on Google or Facebook. A selfie video would be amazing, but even a nice word is great to see. Thanks and Happy Purim!
Thank you to all those that donated towards our soldier campaign and former Knesset Member Dov Lipman on behalf of his organization Yad L’Olim, picked up 50 Mishloachei Manot packages for Ukrainian Refugees last night, and they were delivered today. In addition, we sent 1000 mishloach manot packages to IDF Soldiers. Thank you!
Another heartwarming scene was provided by Israeli Medical Clowns working and cracking up these kids, running for their lives to safety. Formerly Israel’s representative to the UN, Danny Danon, shared the video linked below.
Charles Entenmann, the man that took over his grandfather’s baked goods business and turned it into an empire, died this week. What does that have to do with Israel? Nothing. But Entenmann’s cakes are a staple at kiddushes and shul functions all over the northeast, and they probably hold a little place in my heart. Somehow Charles made it to 95. Rest in peace. I’ll include an article below.
Israel has destroyed the entire Iranian fleet of drones during an airstrike inside Iran in February. The attack is said to have destroyed hundreds of drones near Kermanshah. It makes you wonder how many covert operations are happening regularly to keep us safe. #GodBlesstheIDF
An incredible kindness was repaid after 80 years, when Sharon Bass, whose grandmother was saved by a Ukrainian woman during the Holocaust, arranged for two of that woman’s grandchildren to come to Israel to escape the Russian invasion of Ukraine. #incredible
Finally, Israel is setting up a field hospital in western Ukraine. Costing $6.4 million, the hospital will provide humanitarian assistance and establish Israel as a neutral player providing crucial assistance to those that need it. #proudIsraeli
As always, I hope to make you smile with some articles and nuggets from the past week.
